The tense situation in Catalonia may affect the conduct of the forthcoming El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid on October 26, which is scheduled to take place at Camp Nou. La Liga has formally requested the permission of the Spanish Football Federation to give the home team to Real Madrid and the meeting to be held at the Santiago Bernabeu on 26 October. The reason for this is the big protest in the Catalan capital against the sentencing of local political activists days ago. If this change comes, Camp Nou will accept the match between the two teams, scheduled for March 1.

The final decision will be taken next Tuesday, October 22, by a special committee composed of three people - Pablo Major (representative of La Liga), Carmen Perez (representative of the Spanish Football Federation) and Lucas Osorio (independent member of the committee). The two clubs have until Monday, October 21st, to submit their positions. Although official statements from both clubs are still missing, according to local media, they are against the option of playing the match at Bernabeu. Barcelona insist that the match be held at their stadium, while in Real Madrid they prefer to move the match via soccer picks to a different date than to host it.
