Liverpool must continue to strengthen their squad with new additions or risk getting into the same situation that Tottenham found itself under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino a year ago. That`s the opinion of the former Arsenal player Paul Merson, who said that the Merseysiders should buy players to fight for a starting place in the lineup of Jurgen Klopp, even though the team won the Premier League. The former striker pointed to Tottenham`s decline as a warning of what could happen if the Reds do not have sustainable investments. The Spurs finished second in 2017, and in the next 2 years they were third and fourth respectively. At the end of the 2018/19 season, the Londoners even reached the final by soccer partners of the Champions League, but then a serious decline followed, leading to parting with Pochettino. Merson said the team had never been able to invest heavily in the squad and that was a bad joke.

'I think Liverpool should buy, but it is difficult to say for which positions. Tottenham were in a similar situation at Pochettino a few years ago. They had a very good starting lineup and everyone they would buy didn`t have a chance to play much. You can`t live like this, you have to maintain competition and be able to rotate. The former England international`s statement comes after Klopp hinted that his team will not be very active in the transfer market this summer.
